Joan Green is a Boston-based teaching artist, choreographer, dancer and visual artist. She has been a dance artist–in-residence in elementary, middle and high schools and is the founder of an afterschool arts education project, the Cambridge Performance Project, where she taught and choreographed for children ages 5 through 14. She co-directed a multi-ethnic, intergenerational dance company of women,
Back Porch Dance Company, for its eleven year run. The Company was known for creating evening-length works combining dance and oral history, on issues of importance to women, and performed throughout New England. She is known for her work in bringing dance into community and currently teaches dance to elders in Elder Housing Projects in the Boston area. Her most recent choreography was seen in a concert she shared with two other choreographers in June 2008. Joan has been a visual artist since childhood but has only begun to show her work in the last eight years. In June 2007, she combined a concert of her choreography with a solo exhibit of images of dancers, titled Dance on Paper, Dance on the Floor which took place at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center. Joan has created four commissioned works for Childrens Hospital Boston and has shown her work in various venues. In 2006, she was awarded a grant for her painting from the George Sugarman Foundation. She is an adjunct faculty member of Codman Academy Charter School, where she teaches art. Joan also teaches a workshop for adults in improvisation and choreography which has been evolving since 1992.

Dance for Absolutely Everybody
Dance is play in motion. How would you move if you believed in the beauty, strength and spontaneity of your body? If you felt free to explore? Whatever shape you're in, movement is your birthright. Claim it, in this 2-hour dance workshop. We will warm-up gently, and work throughout the workshop with wonderful music. We'll use structures which will call out your inner dancer and have you itching to bring this work into your classroom. Experience the power of expression that involves your body, your mind and your spirit. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
